Let’s make December delightful

By Clare Crouch on 29 November 2020

As we move into December this week many of us will be starting to feel the stresses and strains of the season.

Do you feel that there’s just too much to do and too little time?

  • Christmas to plan, whatever that will look like this year
  • Shopping to be done, also not an easy task for many
  • More work to be done in less time because you really want to have time off work for the holidays
  • Shorter days with little sunlight can also take their toll

The season of joy and goodwill often feels far from it and by the end of the month you may feel frazzled rather than festive.

Does this sound all too familiar?

Why not change the story this year?

Plan to make this December a calmer, more nourishing and nurturing month for yourself and your family so that you don’t end up too burnt out to enjoy the festivities at the end of it all.

Me time

Take some time to look at your schedule and block out time for you. Whether that’s to get out for walks, sit quietly in meditation, long soaks in the bath or to read that book you received last Christmas but haven’t had time for yet.

Whatever ‘me time’ looks like for you plan it in now so that it definitely happens. Remember the saying, you can’t pour from an empty cup!

Plan meals ahead of time

Think about meal planning ahead of time so you know exactly what needs to be done and when to keep nourishing food on the table. This helps to avoid turning to take-away deliveries or ready meals. The Vibrantly Healthy Meal Planning Made Easy guide and email series is available free until the end of December when you subscribe to my newsletter here.

Go outside

Spend time outdoors, every day, whatever the weather. Even if this is only a walk around the block or sitting in your garden with a blanket wrapped around you for 15 minutes.

Shop local

Find local small crafters or businesses who make or sell products that would be perfect for Christmas gifts. This can be a great way to avoid the usual socks or 3 for 2 smellies and also get a warm fuzzy feeling about buying from someone who will almost certainly be doing a little happy dance to receive your order.

Deck the halls

Make your home look magical with festive decorations to help you to remember the joy the season can bring.

These are just a few ideas and I’m sure you can find dozens of ways to make this December delightful.
